California Democrat Rep. Harley Rouda backed legislation that aims to protect public lands and waters in California, Washington and Colorado.
Rouda said he was proud to vote in favor of the effort, and emphasized how protected lands like Yosemite and Joshua Tree support California’s economy.
“California is home to world-renowned wilderness. Every year, millions travel to our state to take in the wonders of Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and millions of acres of protected land. I’m proud to continue John Muir’s legacy of conservation and protect our tourism and recreational economy that supports 7.6 million American jobs,” Rouda said in a statement.
California alone is home to about 33 million acres of wildland.
