COURIER expands to Texas!

Today COURIER, a fast-growing pro-democracy digital news network, announced its expansion into Texas, its eleventh state. Initially launching with COURIER DFW in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, COURIER ultimately plans to have multiple regional newsrooms in the state under the COURIER TEXAS umbrella. The Texas expansion brings COURIER’s engaging blend of community, lifestyle, and political news to the state via social media and email-first reporting, producing informative content for the online spaces where Texans spend their time, such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
“Texas is the state with the largest eligible non-voting population,” said Tara McGowan, founder and publisher of COURIER. “Our mission at COURIER is to build a more informed, engaged, and representative America, and that begins with providing civically empowering local news to people who have been left behind by mainstream media.”
“As a seventh-generation Texan, it’s incredibly meaningful to be a part of building the type of local news organization that North Texas needs and deserves,” said DFW Community Editor Joi Louviere.
“I’m thrilled to see COURIER come to Texas. This is the type of investment in Texas that we need if we’re going to counter the spread of misinformation and help build a more informed and engaged electorate,” said Matt Angle, Director of The Lone Star Project.
COURIER TEXAS launches with an in-state, on-the-ground talented team under the leadership of Managing Director Nathaniel Markowitz. The staff’s diverse array of professional backgrounds, ranging across multimedia journalism, traditional print reporting, social media management, community engagement, newsletter production, and advocacy efforts, bring critical skills for building a successful digital media infrastructure in the state.
“There is a battle being fought on the local, state, and national level over Texans’ rights and freedoms, and we aim to make sure all Texans understand what’s at stake,” said Chief Political Correspondent Matt Hennie. He returns to Texas after serving as the Editor-in-Chief at The Phoenix New Times, the Executive Editor at The Wichita Beacon, the founder of Project Q Atlanta, and as a reporter and editor at various newsrooms, including The Houston Voice.
“There is so much great work happening in Texas to empower communities across the state, and we’re excited to be a part of this energizing ecosystem,” said Dawn Jones, Statewide Partnerships Director.
Texas is the eleventh state in the COURIER network, following Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
