By Lucy Ritzmann, COURIER Staff
We are 196 days away from Election Day 2024… and we’re all feeling it. But, thankfully, none of us are going through this alone. Here is a list of the top ten podcasts that are keeping us sane (and up-to-date) during this wild era of American politics.
1. American Fever Dream from Betches Media + Under The Desk News
Every week, V Spehar and Sami Sage will tenderly guide you through the biggest moments in politics and pop culture with a healing dose of perspective and humor. Rather than spiral over the latest unprecedented event, the hosts dig for the 2024 political tea you *really* want to hear while offering all the information you need to be an empowered citizen, without the side of despair to keep you up at night.
The polls are broken. The stakes are unprecedented. And the future of democracy, like it or not, hinges on one thing – VIBES. Vibes Only hosts Brian Derrick and Glennis Meagher are here to check the vibes of American politics and break down the need-to-know news of the week. And even when that news could easily kill the vibe, Brian and Glennis are here to keep it real AND pull us out of a doomscroll spiral.
3. The PoliticsGirl Podcast from MeidasTouch
American Democracy is not promised to us and, with all the forces working against it, saving it will take a level of work most people aren’t ready for. The Politics Girl Podcast with host Leigh McGowan is here to give people a reason to care and a reason to fight. Our goal is to inspire. To instill in people a true understanding of what this country COULD be if the right people were fighting for it, and what it WILL be if they don’t.
4. Pod Save America from Crooked Media
Pod Save America is a no-b******t conversation about politics hosted by former Obama aides Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vietor. It cuts through the noise to break down the week’s news and helps people figure out what matters and how they can help.
5. No Lie from Brian Tyler Cohen
No Lie covers the most important and breaking political stories of the week, hosted by progressive commentator Brian Tyler Cohen. He sits down with major players in the world of politics, bringing you right into the heart of the action. No bad faith talking points, no disinformation, and no lies.
6. Fast Politics with Molly Jong-Fast from iHeartPodcasts
Join noted author & pundit Molly Jong-Fast for irreverent humor that cuts right to the heart of our politics today as she discusses the top political headlines with some of today’s best minds. 7. The ReidOut with Joy Reid from MSNBC
Joy Reid conducts one-on-one conversations with politicians and newsmakers while addressing provocative political issues both inside and outside of the beltway. Drawing from her decades-long experience in politics, passion for addressing the intersection of race, justice and culture, as well as her signature tenacious interviewing style, Reid delves into American politics as it unfolds.
Politics is how people achieve power. Policy is what they do with it. Every week on The Weeds, host Jonquilyn Hill and guests break down the policies that shape our lives, from abortion to financial regulations to affirmative action to housing. We dive deep and we get wonky, but we have fun along the way.
9. Political Gabfest from Slate Podcasts
Stephen Colbert says “Everybody should listen to the Slate Political Gabfest.” The Gabfest, featuring Emily Bazelon, John Dickerson, and David Plotz, is the kind of informal and irreverent discussion Washington journalists have after hours over drinks.
10. The Daily Blast with Greg Sargent from The New Republic
Every weekday, The New Republic’s Greg Sargent brings you a fresh way of thinking about the biggest political stories of the moment, offered up in an entertaining, information-packed conversation with a leading lawmaker, journalist, or newsmaker.
